video game

Ringmaster

by Chad Cable, Tracy Lee Dendy, Craig Spaeth, Kelsey Adams, Meg Grube, Emily Robins, and Marcus Lee

Ringmaster puts players in the shoes of 'Boy', who suddenly finds himself lost in a creepy carnival land. The only way for him to escape is the hot air balloon placed at the top of the tallest tent - but to get there he must find keys randomly placed in the game world.

This project was developed in four months and was a terrific learning experience. It was the group's first time making a 3D video game which provided the team plenty of opportunities to mess up - but just as many opportunities to try something new. The result is a functional but overly difficult game. I've come to appreciate the complexities in designing gameplay for the end user. Even if it makes sense to the designers, game players must be able to pick up a controller and play it on their own. This lesson, combined with learning how to actually design and implement a 3D game, proved to be vital in developing The Great Teakon.
